guys win €868 on Thunderstruck II
For those who enjoy mythology and are fond of Paramount Pictures Thor and its sequels Microgaming offers a fantastic epic slot Thunderstruck II. Odin, Thor with his Hammer, Loki, Valkyrie, Asgard, dragon ships they are all part of this legendary video slot. Superb graphics, realistic atmosphere, the potential to good pay make this online game one of the most popular all around.
Every once in awhile, a genre gets redefined by something truly excellent, raising the benchmark and setting new levels of expectation. By far one of the most successful examples of in the slots genre is the Thunderstruck series, starting with the original Thunderstruck slot by Microgaming.
Depending on who you ask, it was Thunderstruck that really propelled Microgaming to the forefront of their field. Launched in 2003, it was the first slot to have a seriously good paytable, and seemed to have hit the nail on the head in terms of giving people what they want.
Thunderstruck II builds on that theme, and while even it has now been around for years, it’s still one of Microgaming’s most popular slots titles. The Norse theme returns, with Thor more powerful than ever, and the graphics more engaging than its slightly dated-looking predecessor.
Thunderstruck II…Perfection Improved
The original Thunderstruck is still popular today – so popular in fact, that Microgaming couldn’t resist the urge to launch a successor. Thunderstruck II is a slot that carries the same overarching theme, but wraps it up in a new game with a higher RTP – as much as 96.65%, making it one of the best paying slots I’ve ever played.
There’s not much to speak of in terms of jackpots in this 5 reel, 243 payline slot – 1,000 coins is hardly going to set the world alight, especially when there’s a bigger jackpot to be had in the original game.
However, the addition of other features, most notably the Great Hall of Spins bonus, means that it’s often easier to get smaller, consistent, predictable wins from your time with Thunderstruck II. There’s also the Wildstorm feature which is usually pretty good to me – although it’s triggered completely at random, it only adds to the mix, in terms of delivering amazing results.
Thunderstruck II is available in multiplayer and mobile versions too, so there’s something for everyone. When you’re playing through, you’re going to want to look out for a few key symbols that hold all the potential in your game.

Key Thunderstruck II Symbols
If you’re already familiar with the original, you probably already know what to expect from the symbols on these reels. While it’s broadly the same as its predecessor, there are a few notable differences you’ll want to pay attention to.
Thunderstruck II: The game’s logo is the wild symbol, so you’ll benefit from a completed payline whenever this appears if you’re one short. It switches in for everything but the scatter symbol, and is active throughout the game, except for during the Wildstorm feature – more on that in a minute.
Thor’s Hammer: Thor’s Hammer is the scatter symbol, and three or more of these symbols triggers the Great Hall of Spins. This is the feature that gives you free spins, plus multipliers, depending on the number of Hammer symbols you’re able to turn up in your game. As you trigger this bonus multiple times, you move through different levels of the Great Hall bonuses, giving you access to some juicy multipliers along with collections of free spins.
Bonuses & Jackpots
The Great Hall of Spins is where the best of the free spins and multipliers lie in this game. Depending on how frequently you trigger the bonus, you can end up with Valkyrie (10 free spins/5x), Loki (15 free spins/extra ‘magic’ Wild), Odin (20 free spins/Wild Raven multipliers) or Thor (25 free spins/Rolling Reels, up to 5x multiplier).
Each of these bonuses is good in its own right and it’s hard to pick a favourite, but if I had to, for me it would be the Odin bonus – with the wilds, there’s up to a 6x multiplier available, plus the 20 free spins. Thor has been good to me too, and to be honest, you can win decent amounts with any of these bonuses.
It’s also worth mentioning the Wildstorm feature. You’ve no control over when this appears and it isn’t related to your reels at all – if you’re playing the game, you might end up triggering this round at any moment.
When you do, you get a single free spin with a number of your entire reels turning wild – anything up to 4 reels can turn wild, which in turn pays out a massive spin. It’s an interesting quirk that comes and goes in a flash (a bit like lightening, perhaps?), but it’s impact can be huge in terms of your potential winnings.
The Verdict
Thunderstruck II is perhaps my favourite slot of all time. I love the original, don’t get me wrong, but the features locked in to the second version are a definite improvement, both in terms of playability and winning potential.
The jackpots aren’t as big as in the original, but you’re still able to see some generous wins – especially when the bonus features start working in your favour. Free spins and multipliers are the name of the game here, and you’ll find a lot of those coming up on your reels when you need them most.
The Great Hall of Spins is a fantastic feature in terms of excitement, and I always know when I trigger these rounds there’s the potential to get a decent win. While most of the wins are small and regular, it’s those occasional whoppers that keep me hooked on this slot above so many others.
The Norse theme is common in slots, but Thunderstruck II broke the mould. If you’re a fan of the original, or you want something else to give you a fresh challenge, you need to check out this all-time Microgaming classic for yourself.
